Avalanche Information Jämtland

Avalanches are a relatively common natural phenomenon during winter in steep mountain terrain. For avalanches to occur, snow-covered slopes steeper than approximately 25 degrees are required. The snowpack is constantly changing throughout the winter as the weather shifts. Avalanche danger can vary from day to day, and even between different locations on the same day. Most avalanches occur naturally during periods of snowfall and windy weather. Avalanches become dangerous and problematic only when people are nearby.
