The best way to avoid avalanches is to avoid avalanche terrain. The slope tool on the map shows all the places that are steep enough for avalanches to start, if the snow conditions are right. The risks generally increase with slope, the steeper the risk, the greater the risk.

The map shows you where it is steep enough for avalanches to start. You can use the map to plan your mountain tours, but keep in mind that avalanches can reach the flatter terrain below the steep slopes once they start.
